We are a Dorset based Goju-Ryu Karate Club,established for over 30 years with venues in Dorchester, Weymouth, Portland and Milborne Saint Andrew. Wessex success at South Region Championships

Wessex carried away 17 out of a possible 19 gold medals at the South Region Championships on 21st April and 33 medals altogether – over half the total medals awarded.

The competition is held annually in Weymouth and is a forerunner for the National Championships held at Chichester later in the year. This year for the first time Dorset Goju Ryu dojo based in Poole joined in the fun. Although entering only a very small team they managed to win a medal, the Peter Lynham award for sportsmanship and “good eggability” and the Competition shield. Hopefully this will encourage them to come back bigger and stronger next year. 

Events are held in individual and team kata and sparring and are divided into categories according to age and grade. Good sportsmanship is prominent throughout the tournament and all praticipants thoroughly enjoyed the day.
